A UNIQUE RETAIL SPACE
Lizzylu is a unique and whimsical gift shop in Austin, Texas. Not only do they carry unique products, they also carry a unique charitable mission. All of their employees are actually volunteers and each quarter provide a donation to a deserving local charity.
Recently, Lizzylu had moved from their original location; a charming bungalow on 38th Street, to a smaller space in Westlake. The new space felt more like a corporate office than the whimsical spirit of Lizzylu. Thus, KQ-Design was tasked with bringing this new space to life, with a heavy dose of charm.
A REFINISHED FLOOR
KQ-Design first refinished the original white flooring, transforming it into modern polished concrete. They painted the majority of the space white to provide a clean, unobtrusive backdrop to the variety and volume of products.
The particle board ceiling was also rejuvenated by installing Coffered tiles which added a sense of architecture and charm. And the windowless back room was painted a light airy blue. When paired with track lighting, products could be highlighted and an otherwise dark room now had the illusion of natural light.
STRATEGICALLY PLACED COLOR
Bright green astroturf was added to the front of the store for a hint of whimsy, and the cash wrap was painted a butter yellow to have a transactional anchor point in the overall layout.
AN ORGANIC FLOW
Of all the updates, product layout was key. Because Lizzylu was moving to a smaller space, but not changing their volume of inventory, KQ-Design was challenged to create a whimsical path vs. aisles which would make the space feel even smaller.
RIGHT AT HOME
The result is a bright, airy space with the organic feel of their original homestead - filled with charm and the energized spirit of this Austin retail staple.
